Strength for the Journey  Dealing with Lies   July 29, 2010

This is the day the LORD has made let us rejoice and be glad in it!

This is the day the LORD has made let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Have you ever been the object of vicious rumors,  the recipient of harsh accusations, the person attacked with verbal swords?  You were innocent of it all.  But many people wondered about you and your trustworthiness.  They said where there is smoke, there is some fire.  Others were trying to be objective but distant.  If that has happened then you can understand David in Psalm 59, “See what they spew from their mouths - they spew out swords from their lips and they say, "Who can hear us?"...those who slander me, For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and the lies they utter.”

If you can identify with the above because of experiences in life, I don't need to say any more. If not, imagine it and what will you think to keep your stability and strength?  How would you handle it emotionally?

David said, “You, O God, are my fortress, my loving God...
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.  O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.” (Psalm 59:16-17)

When rumors are swirling, it can be hard to keep a clear head.  David's heart and mind remained focused on the only thing that is totally reliable.  His Savior God.  He even expressed confidence, I will praise you in the morning.  What a reminder for us.

We pray
Lord when trouble surrounds a believer, teach us to keep our eyes focused on you.  Be the rudder guiding our life in perilous waters and keep us strong in you.  Amen

Today's Bible reading is:  1 Chronicles 18 - 20, Psalm 59
